Romantic Vacations Guide calls the XShot Camera Extender, an Awesome Travel Tool

Thanks Arnie Jacobson from Romantic Vacations Guide for your travel tips and great video review of the XShot Camera Extender, the ultimate travel accessory. The XShot has been used for many different things such as family pictures, action and sport videos with GoPro cameras, vlogging, concert pictures above the crowd and more but the initial idea came in 2006 when the inventor Michael went to France. He could not get a decent picture of himself and his wife with the Louvre museum in the background and tried to come up with a solution.

Arnie totally got that travel photography frustration and loved the XShot simple answer:

"Everybody loves to keep a photo record of their travels. From time to time, Jodi and I love to sit down and go through our photos and it just brings back memories of the wonderful times we had on our romantic vacations. You look at the photos but rarely you get to see both of you in the same photo. Does that sound familiar? I bet it does because we have been through that.

There are ways around it like the infamous stretching your arm out as far as you can, trying to get both of you in and some part of the scenery behind you so you know where that was. And how about stopping a complete stranger and handing them your camera, maybe an expensive camera, walking away from them and asking them to take a picture. It can be done but it's a drag. So, I've got a product for you that will allow you and your sweetie to be in every photo, anytime , anywhere. It's called the XShot." Source XShot Camera Extension YouTube video.

One little tip we would add to Arnie's demo : when you don't want to see the XShot shaft in the picture, just keep your elbow close to your body and angle up the camera extender to be at face level. It will look like a someone else took the picture for you.

Back from CES 2012 : Product Find #1 GoPano 360 iPhone lens

We are back from CES 2012, the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Check out the XShot team at our mandatory stop at In'N'Out in Barstow, on the way to Vegas and back :) Elodie, Marni, John and Michael.

XShot was exhibiting for the second year in a row and once again it has been an amazing and intense week. Tons of contacts, lots of innovative products and a lot of fun…

First we wanted to thank the hundreds of amazing people who came to visit our booth in the iLounge Pavilion at CES.

Your smiles and interest in our products made it a very successful show for us and we had an overwhelming positive response from everyone. Seeing you having a blast extending the XShot, taking pictures and videos with a big grin on your face was the best reward for us.

I think one of the best memory will be when we gave an XShot iPhone case to a blogger to try out, so he could make his own vloggs and interviews : he loved it, put it on his iPhone 4S and ditched his own case in the trash because he would not use it anymore…priceless…

We managed to wander a little in the other halls and booths and wanted to share some of our "Product Finds" :

Product Find #1 : GoPano iPhone case and 360 lens

We had the great pleasure to meet the GoPano team and their interviewer extraordinaire Lex Filipowski.

The GoP ano Micro is a lens for the iPhone 4 and 4S that enables you to create 360° panoramic videos. You just attach the lens to your iPhone4 and tap record to make interactive 360° videos instantly. When Lex shot a video on the XShot booth, he could shoot his whole interview like a normal video but when we watched, we could touch the screen and see everything at 360 degrees, the whole booth and around. Pretty amazing!

Of course we tried to attach the top part of the GoPano case with the lens to the bottom part of our XShot iPhone 4S case, so we could use it on the XShot camera extender and get a self video and awesome angles… Loved it!

GoPano is also a community where you can upload and share your videos with the help of a free app.

 For more info : www.gopano.com

Features

  • Records 360º interactive panoramic videos (not photos)
  • Ultra-wide field of view: 360° x 80°
  • Live preview of 360° video
  • Use the free GoPano app from the App Store to view, record and share panoramic videos
  • Free membership for online sharing of 360º videos at www.gopano.com
  • Includes a custom designed case for your iPhone4 or 4S
  • Microfiber carrying bag

The XShot camera extender , XShot iPhone tripod case and GoPano lens, make the ultimate iphoneographer and vlogger's kit…

Rating A must have accessory for your camera : By Alex G W from Eugene, OR on 10/29/2008
I have been traveling around Australia with the Xshot and it has been an extremely handy and fun accessory. It is great for traveling since it packs up small and is fairly light. Every time I use the xshot a crowd of people gather to check it out. It’s a great conversation starter. I would highly recommend the Xshot to anyone that is looking for a way to take exciting and unique pictures.

I brought my new XShot along with me on a 4 day backpacking tip to 1000 Island Lake in Mammoth high country. We used the XShot to get some great group shots without needing an extra person to take the photo. No tripod required. Really easy to use and compacts nicely to fit in your pocket.

Rating Camera Extender, By PuebloCat: 01/06/2009My daughter is always taking self-portraits of herself and others with her, so she was really excited when she received this as a gift. Don’t know how well it works, since I have not personally used it, but she tried it a time or two when she got it, and it seemed to make taking self-portraits a lot easier.

Rating This is Great!, By Procker, Southern New Jersey – 11/18/2008
I bought this as a gift for a friend, she loves it and it’s so easy to use. We took photos with it all night at her birthday party. The price was so good… I might have to buy one for myself! LOL

Rating I LOVE MY XSHOT!!!!, By xshotmaniac, Los Angeles, Ca – 10/28/2008
The Xshot has not only changed the way I take pictures, it has given me the opportunity to make amazing video diaries. When I was traveling in Sweden last year I took some awesome video of me walking in different areas and narrating as I went. It gave me a chance to shoot my own moving video and be on camera at the same time, amazing! I have also done some really neat video as I’m riding my bike on the beach path.
I took a lot of pictures from the back of crowds. However, instead of getting mostly backs of people’s heads I extended my Xshot and took some great perspective shots. Here’s a sample of one I took at a rally for peace. I LOVE MY XSHOT!!!!

Great for those moments when you can’t get anyone else to take your picture. Another friend of mine went paragliding and used it with a video camera while in the air. Epic footage.

Rating Great idea and product!!, By Brody74, Summerland, CA – 10/24/2008
I’ve owned the Xshot for over a year now and have found it to be an AWESOME addition to my camera equipment!! I take it on hikes, road trips, family gathering and just keep it in the car for any occasion. I love taking video with it, it gives you that “steady cam” feel like a camera is following you. It’s so much fun!! For hiking when there is nobody around to catch a great shot w/ a waterfall in the background it is the BEST. Makes an excellent gift and stocking stuffer for the upcoming holiday season. Thanks for inventing the XShot. I love it!!!

Rating very fun!, By IslandTripper – 10/22/2008
I bought it on a whim and have since taken some awesome shots with it. The most recent was on a wedding dance floor where it allowed for some shots from up high looking down on people dancing away…tons of fun! And on a trip to Peru it came in handy lots of times…

Great idea, great product, you’ll have more fun with it and find more uses for it than you might think!

Rating Works great for my point and shoot camera, June 16, 2011, by sandiego3day

I used this for the first time at Disneyland. I wish I’d gotten royalties for each time someone came up to me wondering what I was doing. Be prepared. Every time you use the x-shot, people are going to stare. Great for meeting and having conversations with others.

Rating Perfect for snowboarding, June 6, 2011, by krolf

During our snowboarding trips, my friends and I often like to shoot video using a GoPro HD Hero. Unfortunately, we couldn’t always get a stable shot (super shaky, bad angle, etc.). That’s now a problem of the past, as the XShot suits all of my needs and then some. It contracts and expands with ease, and has a solid construction to sustain those brutal falls that tend to happen from time to time (unlike many other models that are made from plastic). I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

This review is from: XShot Camera Extender – Black (XS2379) (Electronics)

Great item. Gave one each to my son, daughter and wife for Christmas. No longer will they not be in the picture or will I see an arm in the picture. Wish I had it at Mount Rushmore where we had to ask a stranger to take our picture and the person did not push the button down enough to take the picture. We found out after they left that the picture wasn’t taken. We had to ask someone else to take it. With the XShot it would have been a breeze to take a picture. Small enough to carry in any bag or coat pocket. It could even be used to take a picture above the crowd, over a wall or around a corner. Great addition to the fully automatic Canon SD1100 camera I got on Amazon a few years back. Inexpensive enough to give one to every member of the family or keep in the family car. Good quality construction

Rating Xshot photo aid, By D. Tadlock: 10/30/2008“The Xshot 2.0 Stainless is a great aid. I have tried several aids to photograph myself on trips. This tool is very useful because it requires no table or surface to sit a tripod – even a micro tripod – on. Until now, most of the pictures of our family events have one characteristics. Everyone is in the pictures – except for me. Now the pictures include me. I have found two things. One is how to take a timed exposure with my new digital computer. The second is that my self portraits work best if I do not use wide angle position on the zoom. Wide angle can give my face some distortion unless I extend the xshot to its longest extention and my arm to a full extention. Since I have a heavy camera, my arm gets a bit wobbly when I am trying to photograph myself. That fault is with my arm and not the xshot. It performs perfectly at whatever extension level.

“I hardly write reviews but thought I should with this one since we’ve recommended this to a bunch of our friends & family now. So I bought the Xshot recently for our Seattle wedding weekend and Maui honeymoon. It was a total HIT! Sure some folks laughed every time I whipped it out (the monopod of course!) but then they would say how clever it was and asked where we go it (which was here from Amazon). Yes, you do look very nerdy carrying this thing around but don’t worry what other people think! You’ll thank yourself when you get home and can see all of you in the same shot! BTW, trust me you will get noticed with this one. We’ve had quite a few folks randomly walk up to us and check it out…so it’s also a great way to meet new people! =)

The Xshot held up pretty well when mounting either one of our point-and-shoot cameras (Canon 1100IS and Casio Exilim). I especially liked the ability to extend our camera over crowds to get a shot at the center of attention. It does take a couple practice shot to get the angles and timing right, but once you get the hang of it you’ll enjoy new picture taking perspectives and wonder why you never got this before! This monopod especially came in handy while on our honeymoon when it was just the two us around. Thanks to this we avoided those awkward close-up self portrait shots. Overall, this is a very helpful and durable product that does its job well.”

Rating Handy gadget By MsChief – 6/20/2008
“I bought this for an upcoming trip. I was surprised at how light, yet sturdy this is. It’s very easy to use – attach the camera (I think a 45 degree angle is perfect), extend the handle, click the timer, then put it in front of you. You can tell if you’re centered because you should be looking directly down the center of the lens. This would be perfect if there were an connection at the bottom of the handle to attach it to a tripod or stand. The longer handle means that you aren’t going to look like you’re holding the camera on a stick in your pictures. The bottle cap tripod is kind of funny, but I can see it coming in handy at dinner. Very handy if you’re never in your own pictures or worried about people stealing your camera.”

Rating Must Have for Anyone w/ a Lite Digital Camera By Albert (Maryland) - 5/ 26/2008
“I chose the Xshot over the other brand that was made of plastic. It has worked flawlessly, but it does take some practice to work with it. Overall, it is ideal when you as the photographer want to be in more shots. I had many people asking about it and where they could get it. I am surprised not to see more people with this as it is definitely a must have for your camera. It is light and portable, and the set up, with a little practice, it fast and efficient. It is constructed well (not plastic), and hopefully should last awhile. The pictures I took came out great, and I was happy to be in more shots!”

Rating Excellent Buy, By Brian J (Somerset, NJ United States) –
1/30/2008
“It is strong, well produced item, and it allowed us to take incredible shots on our own. It take some getting used to for aiming, and adjusting your shot, but after a few pics you will get the hang of it and it will be one of the best purchases you will have made.
It easily stored in my jacket pocket, and I removed the camera ever time I put it back in my pocket. So when we would setup for a shot, pulled it out, connected it in a matter of seconds, and we were off.”

Rating Xshot makes self-portrait taking a cinch! By Tracy K “tracybebe” – 12/28/2007
My fiancée and I travel every other month to places far and near. Very often, we find ourselves in front of the Trevi Fountain, Haleakala summit, or Eiffel Tower wondering, “Who should we ask to take our picture?” The XShot makes self picture taking so easy, but be warned, you will attract attention. I can’t begin to count how many times I’ve heard whispers of, “Ask her where she got it” or “That is so cool!” It is so simple to learn, you don’t need an instruction manual. It takes great pictures and works with any camera that has the tripod screw insert below. The only drawback I can think of is its inability to take vertical pictures, unless I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. I love my XShot and will take it with me on every trip. 5 STARS!

Rating Fantastic!, By J. Mueller (Atlanta, GA) – 12/21/2007
“This was the second handheld monopod I purchased. The first was $10 more expensive and made of very cheap plastic. The plastic cracked the first time I used it. I threw away the plastic monopod and picked up the Xshot – I love it! It’s made of steel and extremely sturdy.
While it is a little awkward to take pictures of yourself with a camera on a stick, it still got the job done during a recent trip to Disney. I was even pulled aside three times by people asking where they could buy one.”

“The XShot shaft is a great tool to have on hand. You can take great photos of yourself and friends or shoot a concert over the crowd with remarkable results!
