Congratulations team, you made it! What an incredible journey!
Jim, Bri, Kate and Rocky (the amazing Raiders of the Lost Tuk rickshaw) passed the finished line a few days ago in beautiful Jaisalmer, as Team #26 of 66 to cross the finish line 2618 km later … all for the adventure and to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Way to go guys!
We arrived in Jaisalmer and found out our finish line was actually INSIDE the centuries old fort! We drove up the steep hills inside the fort and when we said earlier in this post that we never once broke down, I guess we really should have said, we didn’t conk out until.our last 100 meters leading up to the finish line. Luckily Rocky was just being temperamental (separation anxiety, perhaps?), we got the ol’ gal going, and alas, reached the top of the fort! Upon arrival we signed in with our time, date, and best story from the road (“Running into the cops…quite literally” – congrats to Kate for winning the best tale of the road story!) Raiders of the Lost Tuk officially crossed the finish line in the heart of the Jaisalmer fort at 2pm on Friday September 24th as Team #26 of 66 to cross the finish line.
What an adventure it was. Or, as our Irish friends would say..what a GRAND adventure it was!!!”
Jaisalmer is now also well known for its amazing Camel tours and our fine team enjoyed a well deserved break while embarking on an overnight camel trek with their friends from Ireland. “It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!” said Jim. Jaisalmer is a beautiful medieval city nested in Rajasthan in the heart of the Thar Desert . Jaisalmer, an important ancient trading center because of its strategic location on the camel trade routes, is often described as the ‘golden city’.
The havelis, built by merchants of the 19th century, are exquisitely carved from golden-yellow sandstone and are still in a beautiful condition. The fort built by Rawal Jaisal in the 12th century, stands on the 80 meter high Trikuta hill, with beautifully carved Jain temples.
We are very proud of you guys at XShot and thrilled to have been part of your adventure. Can’t wait to see the videos!
Check out how to photograph yourself on a camel without scaring the animal…
Because I have to say that I did the same trek in Jaisalmer a decade ago and camel gallop is not that comfortable!
