We talked last year about the California group Save the Mermaids with Robin Fisher and they are back on a new mission to help save the oceans. We are thrilled to help them record and share their adventures and continue to educate and raise awareness on a critical subject.
Check out at the end of the post the NBC Los Angeles interview of the Santa Barbara Mermaids.

Save the Mermaids is a non-profit organization based in Santa Barbara, California comprised of a group of women who act as ambassadors for the sea. The Mermaids are working primarily on reducing single-use plastic pollution. They share information and spread awareness through school presentations, community events, and online social networking.

This January, the Mermaids have the opportunity to travel to the Great Pacific Trash Gyre, an area of the Pacific Ocean that is saturated with garbage-the majority of which is single-use plastic waste. On this expedition, the Mermaids will be testing equipment that monitors the plastic content of ocean water. Plastic toxicity in fish is an under-represented issue threatening those who enjoy eating fish. The research gathered on this trip will be helpful to the fishing industry, restaurant industry, and overall human health.

The girls leave Oahu on January 8th and will be exploring the ALOHA research station until the 12th. When back on the island, they plan to host a beach clean-up and work with kids on Oahu to re-inspire stoke in the community against beach and ocean pollution.
While at sea, the Mermaids will be documenting their journey and updating their online blog to reflect what they are learning and how they fare with sea-legs.

Thanks to the XShot, the Mermaids will be able to record video and take pictures from any angle, under-water, and during exciting discoveries without worrying about setting up the tripod. For spontaneous girls quick to record and get news to their followers, the Mermaids rely on the XShot to keep on top of their blogging.

Stay tuned in to get links to the videos and pics shot at sea.
