XShot is extremely proud to be part of this amazing and epic adventure! Congratulations for your first summit together, Steve and Toby.
Next spring, Steve Obbayi, a 39-year-old climber from Nairobi, hopes to become the first Kenyan man to summit Mount Everest, with Expedition Everest Founder Toby Storie-Pugh. Earlier this summer, Storie-Pugh and Obbayi summited Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 19,341 feet is the continent’s tallest mountain. They took the XShot camera extender with them to film their summit and brought it to the top of Africa.
Thanks for sending this XShot postcard guys! We are so proud of you and we are looking forward to your next summit.
Toby and Steve are leaving soon for Nepal, to start their next training climb on Baruntse (23,517 feet) before making the trek to Everest base camp in March 2014. They will put the XShot Pro camera extender to the test in those extreme conditions.
The XShot Pro is made for tough with its new aluminum GoPro and tripod adapters, new metal ball-head, heavy-duty grip and ultra-secure lanyard. Ready to capture the action on the top of the world.
“I knew I wanted to climb Everest and do it in a way that would make a difference,” Storie-Pugh said. “Not only will my teammate Steve set an outstanding example for Kenyans, but also together we’ll call attention to one of the biggest problems facing the world. Poor sanitation is insidious. It kills children; keeps them from going to school; and hinders economic growth.”
To bring awareness to an international high-profile expedition, the two climbers will summit Mount Everest in the name of global sanitation. They will lead a campaign for a New York City-based nonprofit group called “Toilet Hackers,” which aims to provide sanitation to the 2.5 billion people who currently live without it, most of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
Toby’s greatest motivation for doing this expedition is to inspire others to live their lives with a sense of adventure. Resist the pressure to be ordinary, but and have the self-belief that, whatever your Everest may be, with the right attitude, it is achievable.
About Expedition Everest
Toby Storie-Pugh founded Expedition Everest in 2012 to recruit and support Kenya’s first Everest candidate. The expedition team includes Storie-Pugh and Steve Obbayi, the first Kenyan to attempt to summit Mount Everest. The pair will make their Everest bid starting in March 2014, raising awareness for global sanitation issues as they climb by leading the Toilet Hackers’ “Do Epic Shit” campaign.
